Scholarship Essay (Book\nReport) Contest -$10,000 in Total Prizes- <\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. PURPOSE <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Next year, 2020 will mark the 70th\nanniversary of the Korean War a.k.a. the 6.25 War (1950-53). Once known in the\nUnited States as \u201cThe Forgotten War\u201d, it has been commemorated by many as an\nimportant historical event in our modern history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We feel privileged to encourage second-\nand third-generation Korean American students to raise their awareness of the\nmodern Korean history; appreciate how Korea has found its current form since\novercoming the disastrous war; have a sense of gratitude toward the United\nNations, particularly including the soldiers of America, that participated in\nthe war and supported South Korea; and recognize the significance of our\nhistory to prepare for the probable future unification of South and North\nKorea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Moreover, we shall not overlook the\nhistorical fact that the Korean War caused tens of thousands of prisoners of\nwar to be detained in North Korea and they have not been able to return to\ntheir homeland to this day even after nearly 70 years since the ceasefire was\ndeclared. <\/p>\n\n\n\n This essay contest has been planned and\nprepared with the objective to enlighten our young generation to be more\nfamiliar with our Korean modern history. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We look forward to participation of youth\nas well as support from their parents and related organizations including\nKorean schools. <\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. ELIGIBILITY <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n a) Any middle school (7~9th\n<\/sup>Grade), high school (10~12th<\/sup> Grade), and college students from\nall over the world<\/p>\n\n\n\n b) Any young people under\nthe age of 23 are welcome to take part regardless of their educational\nbackground. <\/p>\n\n\n\n 3.
